I am a social scientist working in political science and human geography. My research focuses on collective action and policy change relating to post-disaster and environmental issues.
My research to date broadly follows three areas of focus: 1. The politics of crisis and disaster 2. Critical perspectives on resilience and adaptation 3. Environment-society relationships |
I have been working in research for ten years, and completed my PhD at RMIT in Melbourne in 2017. My Masters and Doctoral research explored the politics and role of community-led response and recovery following disaster. I have worked on projects as part of the Deep South and Sustainable Seas National Science Challenges related to climate change adaptation and public engagement for environmental restoration initiatives.
I currently work at the University of Waikato as part of the Resilience to Nature's Challenges Science Challenge on research relating to risk and decision-making at the science policy interface. I also work as an independent research consultant with the Biological Heritage Science Challenge.
My background in university lecturing and tutoring has led me to teaching in a diverse field of subjects. This experience, combined with my earlier work in environmental education and facilitation, allows me to communicate complex ideas to a broad range of audiences.
In my spare time I channel my passion for wildlife and conservation into photography and exploring my home country of Aotearoa New Zealand.
